AFTER being given an away tie at Chesterfield in the FA Cup first round draw, Tranmere manager Ronnie Moore reckons it’s high time that the club embarked on another famous cup run.
Rovers will travel to Derbyshire on Saturda,y November 10 to tackle the League Two Spireites and Moore believes it is the chance for the team to rekindle some of the knockout excitement enjoyed by Tranmere in the recent years.
He said: “Tranmere is famous through the years for the cup runs, Aldo (John Aldridge) has taken the club as far as anyone in getting to the final of the League Cup.
“The cup hasn’t been good to me, I haven’t had good runs so I think it’s about time.
“I got to the third round with Rotherham and played Liverpool and lost 3-0 but it’s what you want.”
Although promotion to the Championship remains the priority for Tranmere, Moore refuses to go along with managers who see the Cup as an unwelcome distraction.
He said: “It gets the crowd excited.
“You play your first round and can put it in the cupboard and bring it out again, get to the second round and then the third when the big boys come in.
“It’s something brilliant to look forward to.
“I know a lot of managers say it gets in the way but the FA Cup’s the FA Cup.
“That’s why I was hoping a Vauxhall or a Southport might have got through and we could have got a draw against them to set everyone up.
“But we’ve been drawn at Chesterfield and have to go there and show that we’re the better side.”
