Former Rover in national post

FORMER Tranmere midfielder Theodore Whitmore has been put in temporary charge of the Jamaica national football team.

Whitmore, coach of the current leading Jamaican club side Seba, replaces the Serbian Velbor Milutinovic, who was sacked last week.

The interim appointment covers Jamaica’s next two games, friendly internationals against El Salvador and Guatemala later this month.

Whitmore said: “It makes me so proud to see that my career has now gone one step further.”

The 35-year-old’s playing career included appearances in the 1998 World Cup finals in France, during which he scored both goals in Jamaica’s only victory, a 2-1 success over Japan. Whitmore played 44 games for Tranmere between 2004 and 2006 after being recruited by former manager Brian Little.
