MANAGER Ronnie Moore completed an overhaul of Tranmere’s left flank when he signed winger Jennison Myrie-Williams on loan from Bristol City last night.
The 19-year-old is likely to go straight into the side for Rovers’ League One encounter with Swansea City at Prenton Park tomorrow.
Rovers also have permission to play Myrie-Williams in the FA Cup second round tie at Bradford City a week tomorrow.
The teenager arrived one week after Tranmere recruited left-back Andy Taylor, 21, on a month’s loan from Blackburn Rovers.
Moore said: “I am delighted to sign Jennison. He is a pacey winger who likes to run with the ball and take on defenders.
“He is naturally left-footed, which brings balance to the side.
“He is hungry to play first-team football and I would like to thank Gary Johnson and Bristol City for allowing him to come to Prenton Park. I now looking forward to having two hungry young left-footed players on our left-hand side.”
Myrie-Williams, a Londoner, made 25 appearances in Bristol City’s charge to promotion as League One runners-up last season.
But he could not break into the first-team picture in City’s Championship squad and spent the early months of the season on loan to Cheltenham Town in League One. The youngster played against Tranmere in the 1-1 draw at Whaddon Road in September.
Moore hopes Myrie-Williams can give Tranmere’s left flank an extra attacking edge, which has been missing since they lost hot prospect Steve Davies to a cruciate ligament injury in September.
Rovers recruited the experienced Kevin Cooper from Cardiff City a month ago but the 32-year-old is expected to return to South Wales after this weekend having failed to hold onto a first-team spot at Prenton Park.
Moore is keeping his fingers crossed that skipper Ian Goodison encounters no delays in his return journey from the Caribbean.
Goodison is due back in the UK today after marking his 35th birthday by returning to the Jamaica side. Making his first international start in three years, Goodison helped Jamaica record a 2-0 friendly win over Guatemala in Kingston on Wednesday.
Moore is confident Goodison’s laid-back character will help him overcome the jetlag from the 13 hour journey.
Moore said: “A lot of managers would worry the player is going to be too tired after all that travelling. But knowing Ian he will sleep through most of those 13 hours.”
Rovers have Shane Sherriff available tomorrow after missing last Saturday’s goalless draw at Doncaster because of a one-match suspension.
But the Australian defender may find the left-back spot is occupied by Andrew Taylor. The 21-year-old made a positive impression on his debut as a second-half substitute at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Moore said: “It looks like we have a little gem in Andrew. We want hungry players and Andy is certainly one of them.
“He is gutted he is not in the first-team at Blackburn. He thinks he is good enough but there are 11 defenders at Ewood Park and it’s very hard for 21-year-old to get in there when there is so much quality in front of him.
“He has come to us, wants to establish himself and has the ideal opportunity to do that here.
“I would like to think that if he continues in the way he has started then he is a player I would like to keep this club.”
Carl Tremarco, who was sent-off at Doncaster, begins a three-match suspension today.
