Moore chasing Taylor and will fine Sherriff for red card

RONNIE MOORE blamed poor discipline for Tranmere’s 3-0 defeat at Leyton Orient last night.

The manager warned he is prepared to punish left back Shane Sherriff with a fine after the Australian’s 50th minute dismissal for a second bookable offence knocked the stuffing out of Tranmere’s challenge at Brisbane Road.

Sherriff became a second Rovers player to be sent off in successive League One games following skipper Ian Goodison’s red card in the 4-3 defeat at Crewe on New Year’s Day.

Moore said “We cut our own throats for the second game in a row.

“There was nothing in the game when the sending off happened. We were one down from a goal we should have stopped but we had been putting Orient under pressure in the first half.

“Shane had one booking to his name and we told him at half time to be careful and disciplined. Within five minutes he made an unnecessary challenge and got the second yellow. He will be fined for that.

“We did not play well in the second half but the sending off was the turning point.

“It’s hard to chase the game when you are a man short and we’ve had to do that in the last two league games. Tired legs take their toll.”

Moore revealed that Tranmere are making an attempt to sign full-back Andrew Taylor on a permanent basis.

Taylor, who has been on loan from Blackburn for the last two months, was withdrawn from last night’s game after a third club came in with a transfer offer. Rovers responded by matching that offer and Taylor is considering the two options.

Moore did not name the other club but it is believed to be Championship side Blackpool.

Moore said “We are waiting on Andy to make a decision and we are hopeful he will want to stay here and play for us.”

“I think he could be another Ryan Taylor in the making and the big thing is we have now pitched in to try and keep him.”
