Tranmere Rovers add another free coach for Hereford replay

TRANMERE ROVERS have added another later free coach for fans going to the all-ticket FA Cup third round replay at Hereford on Wednesday, January 16.

A second departure time of 4.15pm has been added for the game as part of the club’s offer, to tie in with younger supporters who can’t finish school in time for the 2.30pm coach.

The later departure is estimated to arrive at 7.40pm with no stops planned and no toilet facilities on board, but the club can’t guarantee arrival in time for the 7.45pm kick-off.

Coach tickets must be obtained in advance from the Tranmere Rovers club shop/ticket office prior to 2pm on Tuesday, January 15.

Meanwhile, Rovers Reserves suffered their sixth Pontin’s Holidays League Division One West reverse of the season but coach Shaun Garnett said: “There were plenty of plusses for us in the game and the first year lads will gain from the experience.”

Rochdale included half a dozen professionals in their side compared to just one by Rovers in keeper John Achterberg. And a sickness bug meant that Tranmere travelled with only two substitutes.

They fell behind after only 10 minutes and Rochdale doubled their lead with a dubious 21st-minute penalty for a foul by Gerwyn Jones after the home side went unpunished for offside.

Rovers were not without their chances with Terry Gornell, Tom Beahon and Danny Wilson going close before Rochdale effectively ended the contest with a third strike a minute before the break.

TRANMERE ROVERS RES: Achterberg, Denson, Cresswell, Jones Taylor Moran, Corrigan, Beahon, Fraughan, Gornell (Richardson 70), Wilson. Sub: Kennedy.

Tranmere’s under-19s made a less than impressive return to Youth Alliance action in a 3-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic at Raby Vale.

Coach Garnett admitted: “I was disappointed with several performances from players in our side. Some need to show more individual professionalism if they are to progress in the game.”

The setback halted a run of four straight Alliance wins for Tranmere.

Garnett had his players working extra hard in training this week ahead of the Alliance fixture at Macclesfield on Saturday morning.
