DONCASTER manager Sean O’Driscoll hopes to teach Tranmere a footballing lesson today.
The Keepmoat Stadium supremo is still irked by comments Ronnie Moore said while working as a television pundit in October during Doncaster’s 2-0 win over Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield.
Warrington-born O’Driscoll interpreted what his counterpart at Prenton Park said as suggesting that his side could be muscled out of games and he is determined to prove him wrong when the two play-off rivals meet this afternoon. He said: “If there was any suggestion that you can’t challenge for promotion from this league by playing good football I think we’ve laid that one to rest – and so have Swansea.
“To go and try to win at Prenton Park will not be easy but that’s what we aim to do.
“We will be out to negate their strengths and impose ours on them – and if we play with belief that’s what we will do.”
O’Driscoll’s promotion-chasers will be out to demonstrate their ‘bouncebackability’ after their defeat at Carlisle a week ago.
Over the last five months Doncaster’s record of recovering from defeats has been impressive and O’Driscoll said: “Losing games is part and parcel of football – it’s how you react to defeat that matters.
“The players all know where they want to be, and what they are aiming for, and the target at Tranmere is simple – three points.
“It’s another tricky test – but trying to win promotion is not supposed to be easy.”
