Stoppage-time goal denies Tranmere Rovers youngsters victory against Wigan Athletic

A YOUNG Tranmere side produced a strong and encouraging performance to take a Puma Youth Alliance point off Wigan Athletic at Raby Vale.

Rovers, with half a dozen under-16 players in the line-up, went ahead on 43 minutes when Will Vaulks headed in.

They were denied a victory by a Wigan equaliser two minutes into stoppage-time.

Tranmere travel to Stockport in the Youth Alliance Cup second round on Saturday.

Meanwhile, after defeating Farsley Celtic 3-0 Rovers will host Cambridge United in the FA Youth Cup second round.
