Parry: Worst performance brings ideal result

LES PARRY admitted his second win as caretaker manager of Tranmere wasn’t anything to write home about.

The long serving physio described Rovers 1-0 success in an FA Cup first round replay at Leyton Orient as “probably our worst performance in the games I have been in charge.”

Parry added: “We can’t hide behind the result. I’ve always said I would judge us on performances rather than results. If we produce that level of performance when we come back to Orient for a league game on Saturday, we will go home with nothing.”

However, Parry acknowledged that disciplined defending saw Rovers through against fellow League One strugglers.

He said: “We’ve been talking about the importance of keeping clean sheets from day one and it was borne out tonight. It’s got to be our number one priority.

“We did keep our defensive shape. Orient had slightly the better of the play but I don’t think they created many chances. Our goalkeeper Luke Daniels had a couple of saves to make but that was about it.”

Parry said he was delighted for youngster Ash Taylor, whose first senior goal for Rovers settled the contest. “Ash played well again, he’s been one of our pluses in the last couple of games. I didn’t see how the goal went in. It seemed to take an age.”

Parry reported that midfielder Alan Mahon could be out for several weeks with an ankle injury.
