A LIVERPOOL divorce lawyer is preparing for a spike in business brought on by the World Cup.
DWF’s David Pickering said that, following previous football tournaments, his team had seen a surge in the number of people “showing their partners the red card”.
He said: “While the World Cup might not cause a relationship to break down, our experience is that it could be the catalyst in bringing to an end a relationship that is already troubled.
“Football fans become glued to their TVs and they become oblivious to everything going on around them.
“A partner with no interest in football may retaliate with some retail therapy using the credit card which in itself causes friction.
“While increases in divorce instructions are normally expected after the Christmas holiday, or in September, after the long summer holidays, this year we expect a peak in mid to late July.”
