Everton FC latest: Tim Howard hits out at new World Cup football

Tim Howard

TIM HOWARD has become the latest goalkeeper to voice his concern at the official Jabulani World Cup football.

And the Everton shot-stopper believes the current criticism may only be the tip of the iceberg with the start of the finals only three days away.

Howard joins fellow keepers David James, Mark Schwarzer, Julio Cesar, Gianluigi Buffon and Iker Casillas in blasting the football, claiming teams will struggle in this summer’s tournament due to the flight of the ball.

Even outfield players such as Xabi Alonso have also expressed their reservations about the Jabulani ball, criticism that has been rejected by manufacturer Adidas who say the ball was widely tested and approved before its launch in December.

But Howard, who featured in the United States’ 3-1 win over Australia on Saturday, says the ball will become a major issue in South Africa.

“It’s terrible,” said Howard. “You will hear that a lot next week, next month.

“We are trying to get used to it, trying to read an unreadable situation.

“ Hopefully it’s not going to come back and bite us but you are going to see some crazy things with the ball.

“What does it do? What doesn’t it do, would be a better question.

“It moves all over. If you hit five balls with the same striking motion you wouldn’t get the same result.
