GLENN TURNER is determined not to ruffle any feathers as the new North West National club takes shape.
So much so, that work has been temporarily suspended on the clubhouse to let nature take priority.
Explains Glenn: “We had been due to start work on the roof, but we have barn owls nesting inside the building and it looks like they have had a second batch of chicks.
“We are taking advice from the experts at Knowsley Safari Park and will start work again when they have flown the nest.”
The clubhouse promises to form an impressive centrepiece for the club. Around £1.6million is expected to be invested in converting the existing building into a combination of members bar, spike bar, meeting rooms, restaurant, conference facilities and function room with capacity for 200 people.
“We want to create areas where members are able to relax and enjoy the great views we will offer out over the 18th green, but also to include a variety of meeting and conference rooms from as small as 10 to as large as 200 for people and businesses to use,” Turner explained.
“We also hope non-members will enjoy coming to the club to eat in the restaurant.”
It is hoped to retain as much of the character of the existing building – with its huge oak beams, internal windows and spectacular courtyard – as possible.
Plans for the site also include a gym and health spa once a suitable partner has been found.
Turner also wants the 200 acre site to become a haven for wildlife and has been actively encouraging the birds and animals to stay while the construction work is underway.
