There was a good selection of main courses, with six poultry and meat dishes, three types of fish and a vegetarian option to choose from.
The Best End of Lamb served pink with a rosemary and mint crust sounded particularly delicious but due to the previous evening's rush (it was Valentine's Day) there was sadly none left.
Instead, I opted for the Sirloin of Beef (£12.95 a la carte or £2 supplement on the set-priced menu), which came cooked rare as I had requested and was perfectly tender.
It was paired with parmesan and horseradish mash and topped with tarragon and mustard butter.
A straightforward but enjoyable dish.
The Pan Fried Duck Breast (£13.95 a la carte or £2 supplement) my Dad chose was served pink on a Thai risotto and doused in a sesame seed ginger oyster sauce. He said it was full-flavoured and not at all fatty in the disappointing way that duck can so often be.
Mum went for the Free Range Chicken Breast served with a warm chick pea Moroccan salad and romesco dressing (£11.50).
The spicy flavours and unusual texture of the salad made what could have been a plain dish into something really special.
All main courses arrived with a selection of seasonal vegetables, Mediterranean and boiled potatoes that were included in the price and had been given just the right amount of cooking - somewhere between raw and soggy.
Throughout the meal the service, by two waitresses who our taxi driver informed us were Polish, had been excellent. Attentive but not claustrophobic, unrushed but not slovenly.
