Dionne Warwick: Viva la diva

Legendary diva Dionne Warwick

“I love all of them – they are like my children and I cannot have a favourite child as I have more than one,” she explained.

And lest we forget, there have been other, later, songs such as those blockbuster Bee Gee numbers, Heartbreaker and All the Love In The World, which have sustained her popularity on both sides of the Atlantic.

“I’m been blessed to be appreciated at home, as well as abroad, and though the touring can be quite tiring the performing makes it all worthwhile,” she says.

As for the future, there’s a new release Why We Sing, coming soon – and still some fiery ambition left for her career.

First she’d love to have a song written for her by that other diva, Mariah Carey.

“And yes, I’d also like the Oscar, the Emmy and the Tony!”

Meanwhile, back on planet Earth and the present, the question is will she bow to expectation and sing all the favourites at the Philharmonic Hall on February 9.

“You’ll just have to come and see,” she concludes mischievously.

Of one thing you can be certain of though, chuck – there’ll be no Surprise! Surprise! duets on stage with a certain someone from Scottie Road.
