KNOWSLEY
KNOWSLEY, which was given four stars in the last two years, is still awaiting its final rating.
A final inspection of its education department must take place first.
So far the Audit Commission said it is “improving well” giving it top marks for its resources, benefits, social services and housing departments.
Its report said: “Key achievements during the last year include significant reductions in crime levels, improved services for homeless people, reduced teenage conception rates and more older and vulnerable people being helped to maintain their independence.
“Progress also continues to be made in reducing worklessness, reducing health inequalities, increasing educational attainment and improving the quality of the local environment.
“Tackling fear of crime and anti-social behaviour remain continuing challenges.”
