THE UK Independence Party (UKIP) are standing in 11 wards this year across Wirral – up from five in 2007 – and say they hope to field even more next year.
UKIP describe themselves as the fourth largest political party in Britain and as “the only party that is committed to regaining our autonomy, away from the unelected bureaucrats in Brussels”.
In their election state- ment, the party said: “EU legislation is responsible for post office closures, the hated Home Information Packs (HIPS) and stopping weekly collections of household refuse.
“Increasing red tape is strangling small businesses and our hands are tied to halt immigration from EU countries, which is causing myriad problems.
“Crime has a serious impact on the lives of its victims and all communities blighted by criminals. UKIP believes that victims’ rights should come first. We believe that the Human Rights Act has been an unmitigated disaster for fighting crime.
“We want to ensure that family GP tradition continues and not is not replaced by ‘polyclinics’. And that illiteracy is banished and our children receive the very best education equipping them for life. Voting for UKIP is a vote for Britain and real change.”
Also standing in Wirral this year is the British National Party, which has put up two candidates – in Bromborough ward and Bidston and St James.
An independent candidate is standing in Leasowe and Moreton East ward, while the Liberal Party has a candidate standing in Prenton.
