The working bees of Rev. Trevor Latham at his church St. Mary's Walton village _320
“I would encourage more people to consider how they can get involved.”
Beekeeping is often associated with the country vicarage, but Rev Latham practises the art from his urban rectory at St Mary’s church, Walton, in the centre of Liverpool.
He started keeping bees about five years ago and now has seven hives.
“A friend of mine was a bee keeper and had some colonies that he wanted to get rid of, which catapulted me into this world.”
As urban bees have more plants at their disposal, the flavour of their honey is often richer than that of their more rural counter- parts.
Rev Latham said that he would encourage anybody suffering from hayfever to take up bee keeping, as it is known to help build resistance.
The day was organised in partnership with Faiths4Change.
