‘Love letter to Liverpool’ gets premiere at the Phil

Terence Davies, renown British Film-maker

Liverpool Culture Company’s creative director Phil Redmond said: “I thought it was a brilliant piece.”

The Liverpool-born Culture Secretary, Andy Burnham, said: “This was my personal highlight of Capital of Culture year so far. The film really brings out the essence of the city.

“I found it kind of difficult to watch, it was so emotional. It stirred a lot of feelings within and gets you right in the heart.”

Liverpool city council leader Warren Bradley said: “I think it’s great to look back because people can see how depressed Liverpool was over a number of years, and see the massive contrast with what the city is today.”

Former Brookside actor and City Talk presenter Dean Sullivan, who was also in the audience last night, said: “The film was wonderful, but it also made me depressed because it’s a reminder – how could we have had a society that allowed people to live in such abject poverty and despair?

“You only see that when you look back, and Terence Davies captured it beautifully.”

Of Time and the City is one of three Capital of Culture films commissioned by Digital Departures, a Northwest Vision and Media project that aims to make the region leaders in the micro-budget feature film industry.
