Row over Tory TV builder who went bust in boom
Mr Prescott was shown pointing to blocked-out names on the staff board, saying: “It’s very, very difficult when someone has been working for you for seven to 10 years and they’re asking ‘Is my job safe?’ and I’m saying, ‘I honestly don't know’.
“How many casualties are we going to leave behind? Broken families concern me – and I feel like I’m part of that at the moment. It can only get worse, if we don’t address the problem now.”
Mr Prescott said last night: “The Company went into Voluntary Liquidation two years ago, as it was trading from an insolvent position, this fact was disclosed prior to broadcast, and was felt to be totally non-relevant to the issues addressed within the interview.
“Our intentions have been, and still are to protect the future employment of our staff, and to speak out on behalf of all business owners.”
Labour MP Steve Pound said: “This political broadcast was David Cameron’s attempt to distract from the fact that his do-nothing party won’t support Labour's plan to give families real help with their mortgages.
“But instead it looks like a serious lapse of judgement.”
