Graham McKenna: Tributes to father stabbed to death

Graham McKenna

Major Colin Murray, Officer Commanding 107 Field Squadron, said: “On a personal and professional basis, he was an outstanding soldier and individual. Š

“He was a great family man and was keen to assist younger members of the military as they embarked on their careers.

“It is often said in these circumstances, but there can be no doubt that he will be greatly missed by everyone.”

Mr McKenna and his son were intending to catch the Soccerbus when they were both attacked and stabbed in the stomach at 12.45pm on Saturday.

Mr McKenna later collapsed in Speedwell Road, followed by his son, and both were taken to hospital, where Mr McKenna later died.

His son’s condition is described as serious but stable.

Yesterday, the close village community of Claughton was still in shock.

Jean Taylor, 53, said: “I have lived here for 30 years and it is a lovely, friendly place.

“I wouldn’t live anywhere else, it is very close-knit, everyone knows each other and we are all in shock that such a thing could happen.”

Merseyside Police believe the offender got into a Honda car after the attack and drove towards Bidston Hill. The car has since been recovered.

The force warned people not to approach Finlay, whom they say is dangerous.

He is described as a white, 5ft 8in tall, stocky build, with blue eyes, has a balding head and was last seen wearing a black and dark grey padded jacket.

He has links to the Prenton area and also to the South West of England.

If anyone does see him they should report the sighting to their nearest police station or by phoning 999.

The dedicated incident room can be contacted on 0151 777 2263, or information can also be passed to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
