Two Liverpool women die from swine flu in Royal Liverpool and Whiston Hospitals

TWO women have died from swine flu, Mersey health chiefs confirmed last night.

Kay Burdett, 32, from Old Swan, passed away on Friday at the Royal Liverpool Hospital from the disease.

And health chiefs said a 29-year-old woman, believed to be from Halewood, also died as a result of the illness at Whiston Hospital.

Last night, Ms Burdett’s sister, Victoria, paid tribute to her “bubbly and loving” sister.

She said: “We are distraught, the whole family.

“My mother is finding it hard to come to terms with. She was so young.

“Kay was such a fun, bubbly person, she was so loving and everyone who knew her will miss her.

“It is very scary that she has died from swine flu, we can’t understand it.”

Ms Burdett had been in the Royal for three months because of her asthma, but was discharged on Monday, December 6.

Her family said she still seemed ill, and last Thursday was taken back to hospital by ambulance.

Ms Burdett said: “She was rushed into intensive care.

“The doctors did a test and on Friday they said it was swine flu.
