The Diocese of Liverpool has broken down its guidance, developed from the national church, into three levels.
The first level advises ministers to wash their hands with soap and water before and after all services of Holy Communion.
The second advises ministers to forbid dipping the bread in the chalice during Holy Communion because of the risk of inadvertent finger dipping.
The third level advises only the vicar to have wine.
Meanwhile, Health Secretary Andy Burnham said more help was on its way to frontline services dealing with swine flu.
He said a National Pandemic Flu Service, offering telephone and online help to take pressure off GPs and other NHS services, will be in operation by the end of the week'.
In addition, the director of public health for the North West has moved to reassure pregnant women in light of recent NHS advice asking them to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from crowded places.
She said mums-to-be should not be “unduly alarmed”.
