THE letter from Mr Beilin (Daily Post, July 14), seems somewhat disingenuous. The purpose of a “news” paper is to report the news, not to filter out any bad news in the development sector at the risk of upsetting certain financial organisations. I want to read what is going on in the city, not a lily-livered version written to protect me from bad news....

MY WIFE and I decided to spend a long weekend in Liverpool this year and celebrate the culture. We’ve both worked briefly in the city, at the Everyman and the Playhouse, but, as soft southerners, a trip north is a bit of an adventure, frankly. People mocked: “A holiday in Liverpool? Contradiction in terms.”...

FURTHER to comments on the letter by Bill Henderson about the legacy of the Capital of Culture, I have to agree that, once the hot air has evaporated (and even the excessive amount that Liverpool can produce doesn’t last forever), there won’t be much to savour....

TODAY the nation is on the brink of the worst financial crisis since the 1930s. Food prices are rocketing, petrol, gas and electricity prices are rising at record levels, and mortgage payments are increasing as the value of homes plummets....

IT WAS with some amusement that I read J Knott’s anti-Christian nonsense (Letters, July 2). He reiterates the comment of PR Jones that Christians “hold beliefs without adequate reason to do so”. This, of course, is ridiculous....
