Trading Gossip readers will recall that at the end of the last gathering, which took place at one of the swish apartments above Liverpool’s Malmaison Hotel, one lady had somehow left a garment behind. Ding dong. This latest event is being held at the newly-refurbished Bang & Olufsen showroom in Castle Street....

As ever, they were well looked after. For £125 a head, they got to guzzle unlimited wine, nosh on chicken and potatoes, and watch the likes of Ilie Nastase, Pat Cash and Martina Hingis cavort around the courts. However, the tournament still has some way to go to match the swankiness of Liverpool jeweller Boodle’s annual tennis challenge, which started yesterday at the exclusive Stoke Park, in Buckinghamshire. Top tables are an eye-watering £250,000. Mind you, for that you are helicoptered in, enjoy gourmet dinners and vintage Champagne, receive free Wimbledon finals tickets AND get to choose from £100,000 worth of gems and trinkets. Oh, and the players include Andy Murray, Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick....

THE chaps from the Emerald Isle do know how to throw a party, and the Liverpool office of Bank of Ireland certainly lived up to that reputation last week. Guests at the launch of their new base at 20 Chapel Street were well fed and watered with Stranford scallops, roast beef, smoked salmon and Laurent Perrier Brut Cham-pagne and the local suits laid siege to the free bar. Neither the word “credit” nor “crunch” were to be heard. Then came time for the entertainment. Punters had been promised a spot of Fab-Fourness from a tribute act known as the Mersey Beatles. But there had clearly been some con-fusion during the booking as the band that showed up were in fact local veterans, The Merseybeats. They took to the stage to the sound of that well-known Irish anthem, er, Land of Hope and Glory....
