Joe Cole

Joe Cole was born in Islington in 1981 and came up to professional football through the celebrated ranks of West Ham Uniteds youth team, alongside Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand and Michael Carrick. He went on to make his England debut against Mexico in 2001, following on from his fine form at Upton Park. A skilful footballer with an eye for a trick, Cole developed rapidly at West Ham and was made club captain by manager Glen Roeder in 2003. He moved across London to Chelsea in the same year and has since won three Premiership Titles with the Stamford Bridge outfit. Cole has also been a regular in England squads and has represented his country at three World Cups: 2002, 2006 and 2010. Londoner Cole recovered from a cruciate knee injury in 2009 and bounced back to help Chelsea win the Premiership in 2010, before moving on to Liverpool in July 2010 on a free transfer, following the expiry of his contract at Stamford Bridge. Cole became Roy Hodgson's first signing as Liverpool manager on July 19 2010.
