Merseyrail
Merseyrail has a network of 67 stations spread across 75 miles of track. Running both over ground and underground, the company carry over 100,000 passengers per day. Outside of London, Merseyrail is one of the most heavily used transport services in the UK. Established in the 1970s, when new tunnels were constructed underneath Liverpool city centre and Birkenhead, Merseyrail has survived through several franchise holders, from the days of British Rail. The network consists of the Northern and Wirral lines, which cover the suburban Liverpool area and Greater Merseyside. The network is mostly electric (calls to make Merseyrail completely electric are often) and services on the Merseyrail network are operated exclusively by the Class 507 and Class 508 electric multiple units.
