Phil Jagielka celebrates

Phil Jagielka

Phil Jagielka signed for Everton from Sheffield United for £4 million in the summer of 2007. Following his release from the Everton youth team as a teenager, Jagielka switched to the youth ranks at Sheffield United, where he proved himself to be a highly versatile player. Jagielka demonstrated just how good a utility player he can be by playing as a goalkeeper for the final thirty minutes of Sheffield United's 2006 home game against Arsenal, helping the team to a 1-0 victory. Having established himself in the centre of Everton's defence, 'Jags' went on to claim his first England cap in the summer of 2008 after coming on as a substitute in a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago. Jagielka also scored the winning penalty in Everton's FA Cup Semi Final win over Manchester United at Wembley in 2009, however he cruely missed the final due to a cruciate knee ligament injury. Jagielka came back from injury in 2010 to establish himself at the heart of Everton and England's defence.
