Ryan Babel

Ryan Babel

Ryan Babel began his career in 1998 after attending a youth selection day at dutch club AFC Ajax for a second successful attempt after failing to pass the first round in 1997. He then went on to play for Ajaxs first team aged 17, scoring his first senior goal nine months later. Babel made a total of 73 appearances for the club. Babel joined Liverpool FC from Ajax in July 2007 for a reported £11.5 million. During his career at Liverpool Babel played as a left winger with the ability to play as a striker. In January 2011 Babel controversially used his Twitter account to blast referee Howard Webb for his part during a FA Cup game against Manchester United which saw Liverpool lose 1-0. Babel posted a picture of Webb in a Manchester United shirt. This outburst resulted in Babel becoming the first Premier League footballer to be fined by the FA for improper conduct for a posting on a social networking website. On January 25th 2011 it was reported that Babel flew to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to finalize a transfer deal with the German team.
