Who is she? Sharleen Eugene Spiteri, 41-year-old Glasgow-born singer.
What is she famous for? She co-founded the band Texas in 1988 when still working as a hairdresser. They went on to have 13 top ten hits and pick up 15 platinum discs. Sharleen released her debut solo album, Melody, in July last year, which debuted at number 3 on the UK album chart.
Distinguishing features? Soul vocals mixed with a rock attitude, she used to favour a rough-cut crop and leather jacket look, but restyled herself for a solo career in the mould of 60s icon Dusty Springfield.
Career high? The album White on Blonde, which charted straight at number one in 1997, and again a year later. It produced five hit singles, Halo, Black Eyed Boy, and Put Your Arms Around Me, Say What You Want and Method Man.
Career low? After a multi-million selling debut album Southside, Texas’s next two, Mothers Heaven (1991) and Ricks Road (1993) sold well only in France and Spain. Their fortunes were turned around when Ellen DeGeneres approached the band to re-record a song from the third album, So Called Friend, which went on to become the theme song to DeGeneres's US sitcom, Ellen.
Significant others? Sharleen had a long-term relationship with the editor of Arena magazine, Ashley Heath. Their daughter, Misty Kyd, was born in 2002, but the couple separated two years later.
Interesting fact? Misty Kyd was apparently named after the Clint Eastwood film Play Misty for Me, and Wild West outlaw Billy the Kid.
She says? "I've always wanted to make a Nancy Sinatra record. That was never going to happen with Texas, but being on my own meant I could make the kind of album I've always dreamed of.”
Not to be confused with? Charlene, from Neighbours.
