THE wedding season is once more upon us. It’s a time of joy, happiness and ludicrously priced drinks at the bar.
I myself spent this past weekend celebrating the glorious union of two very close friends by getting drunk.
Unfortunately I thought the memory of that spectacular day was lost forever after I decided to have just one more gin and tonic but thankfully Springwatch were filming in the area.
For those of you unfamiliar with Springwatch, it’s a programme dedicated to snooping on the lives of mammals, birds and insects (just setting the scene).
They’d had a quiet day after the cuckoo had gone shopping, the foxes were down the beach and one of the badgers had been run over. What we hadn’t realised was that they’d turned the cameras on us (stay with me).
Imagine (yes, imagine) my surprise when I stumbled across this on the extras section of their website (it’s almost plausible): “You find us deep in the North Yorkshire countryside.
“An area famed for its natural beauty, green hills and country homes.
“We’re here on a Saturday afternoon to watch one of nature’s finest spectacles, it’s simply known as the wedding reception.
“From our viewing spot in the hide, we can see the various species filtering into the venue.
“Thanks to this sunny day we can watch them at play on the patio, unhindered by the brick walls of their hide.
“As their eyes adjust to the bright sunlight after the dark church, we can see them weighing up their surroundings, as they look for the free champagne.
