IF LAST week’s missive gave the impression that I was a tad excited at the prospect of new season stock arriving in stores then this week it is safe to say that matters have reached fever point.
It was payday on Friday and – mentally at least – I have already spent every last penny of it... on clothes.
If it weren’t for the fact that I actually have a job to do if I hope to see another pay cheque, I would be out there right now snapping up hot-off-the-sewing-machine fashions.
I cannot wait for the odour of freshly released trends to fill my nostrils.
Fendi, Flannels, Harvey Nichols – here I come. Although, if the glossies are anything to go by, I might be better off making tracks for my local hardware store.
Because if one thing marks you out as on-trend this season it is a stud on your arm... or foot, or shoulder.
Yes studs are everywhere and on everything. Bags – check. Belts – check. Shoes – check. Leather jackets – check. Dresses – natch. Bangles – you bet. Boots – no brainer.
If you can wear it you can stud it. And some of the looks being rocked in fashion circles right now make Vyvyan from the Young Ones look under-accessorised.
Blame Balmain for starting all this with those phenomenal gladiator heels as worn by Gemma Arterton at the last Bond premiere. Or Isabel Marant, the designer behind the £600 studded suede ankle boots that I am dreaming about nightly despite the fact I have about as much chance of getting my hands on them as I do Clive Owen.
The good thing is that studs are not just a high-end style. All along the high street the stores are rocking heavy metal.
