Trust the Post: Our secret revealed

YOU will be seeing some big changes in your Liverpool Daily Post from Monday. It’s exciting news, and I thought today would be a good opportunity to share it with you.

Our editorial team have been working very hard behind the scenes to deliver some significant improvements to the newspaper.

The first thing you will notice on Monday morning is the new-look masthead and front-page design. And when you turn inside, you will discover that the contemporary new look continues throughout the paper.

It is designed to help us get more stories in, supported by more analysis and comment, to keep you even better informed.

For some weeks now we have been enhancing our coverage of national and international news, and you will be seeing more of that next week, alongside our agenda-setting, informed coverage of all the key issues affecting our city region.

Business is, as ever, at the core of what we do, and we will be giving it even greater prominence from now on.

People in the know in the business community on Merseyside already rely on our award-winning business team to help them keep their fingers on the pulse. That is a strength we intend to build on.

In the wake of 2008, Liverpool’s cultural community continues to thrive and grow, and arts editor Laura Davis will be bringing you enhanced coverage of the arts.

Football, as ever, will be prominent on our sports pages.

But we are also extending and improving our coverage of other key sports. You will have noticed that we are now giving Rugby Union much more space, with Monday match reports and more news and background stories every Wednesday.

Watch out, too, for more developments in our golf coverage soon.

I’m pleased to say we have signed up some new and talented writers to add to our impressive band of columnists.

Journalist and broadcaster Will Batchelor and Jane Costello, my predecessor in the Editor’s chair and now a successful popular novelist, will both be writing for you every week, and I’m sure you are going to enjoy their work.

Mr Brocklebank makes a welcome return from his sabbatical, while internet entrepreneur Ben Hatton launches a new column in LDP Creative.

Factor in recent new faces like Gary Bainbridge and David Higgerson, and great regulars like Phil Redmond, Jim Hancock, Mark Lawrenson and Emma Johnson, and I doubt if you will find a better stable of columnists anywhere in the regional press.

It all starts on Monday. I hope you enjoy the changes, and I know you won’t be shy about sharing your opinions with me. I will look forward to hearing from you.
