Too much duplication

SO WIRRAL’S culture and history is to be sold off by the council that runs the show! (Daily Post, November 26). Read

Rail links have to be improved

THE steady, sad decline of longer distance train services from and to Liverpool has been well- documented. Read

Responsible employer

YOUR front-page story and editorial, “Bullied staff too stressed to work” (December 1), paints a wholly misleading picture of Liverpool City Council. Read

Let’s be clear on the decision

IN THE wake of the “For Sale: Wirral’s Culture” headline (Daily Post, November 25, 2008) I feel I must reiterate the position of Wirral’s ruling Cabinet in considering the Strategic Asset Review. Read

Great heritage giveaway

WE ALL know the famous Christmas song, The Twelve Days of Christmas. Read

Time to fall on your swords

RE: CULTURAL Provision on Wirral (Daily Post, November 26). I am a Wirral resident and I was appalled to hear of the massive cuts Wirral Council is planning. I have lived in Wirral all my life and remember clearly when growing up in the 1970s there being one gallery (Williamson) and one theatre (Floral Pavilion). Read

LFC fans want no part of this

I FEEL Mark Lawrenson (Daily Post, November 18) is way off the mark with his opinion that Liverpool should share a ground in Stanley Park with Everton. Read

Labour must shoulder blame

WHEN Hazel Blears talks of “Estates that have been ignored for decades; voters taken for granted; local services that have failed; white working-class voters who feel politicians live on a different planet . . .” she struggles to palm a share of the blame onto other political parties. Read

Liverbird is still our symbol

THANK heavens Liverpool FC have seen sense – or bowed to the tidal wave of protest from ordinary members of the public, including many of their own loyal supporters, no doubt. Read

A national treasure

THE British have a genius for diverting attention away from unpleasant news by directing everyone to something of no real importance at all. Read

Culture Capital bubble bursts

IT CAN hardly come as a surprise that hotel bookings are down by 37% for next year (Daily Post, November 19). Read

Disgusted by Liverbird bid

ALTHOUGH a Scot, and proud of it, I have lived in Liverpool for over 30 years, and I am disgusted with the idea that Liverpool FC's owners should try to hi-jack the Liverbird. Read

You can’t rewrite history

THE decision to remove Gary Glitter’s name from the wall outside The Cavern is utterly absurd. Read

Breakdown of family to blame

I FULLY concur with the views of J Wallis (Daily Post, Letters, November 12), on the causes of the drunken culture that now seems endemic in the UK. Read

Final curtain for theatre

FORTY years ago my father, as High Sheriff of Cheshire, and my mother were invited guests at the opening of the Gateway Theatre in Chester. Other guests were the Town Clerk of Chester, Mr G Burkenshaw; the Mayor and Mayoress of Chester, Alderman and Mrs F Barker; Mr J Hodgkinson, drama director to the Arts Council; Alderman R E France-Hayhurst, the Sheriff of Chester, and Mrs France-Hayhurst. Robert France-Hayhurst, a partner in the former Chester solicitors Gamon and Co, later as Mayor of Chester represented the city at the investiture of the Earl of Chester as Prince of Wales. Ruth France-Hayhurst, nee Okell, was the daughter of a former rector of Malpas where her sister, Christine, now lives. Read

Bad parenting is to blame

SO THE Government, which should be using every breath in their collective bodies to get us out of this unholy economic mess we are all languishing in and nothing else, has found a new crusade – they are going to kill off happy hours. Read

Remembering the fallen

WHEN I watched the coverage of Remembrance Day on the news this weekend I could not help but think how differently this day is now viewed compared with how it was just a few years ago. Read

Time to end the war now

MERSEYSIDE Stop The War Coalition welcomes the election of Barack Obama. We congratulate him and wish him well. His election is a rejection of racism and war. As anti-war activists who have campaigned long and hard these past seven years, we are happy to see the back of George W Bush. Read
