ON ROUNDABOUTS, outside shops, on central reservations, in hotels, unless you have been wandering around with your eyes closed this past week, you cannot fail to have noticed there are Superlambananas everywhere.
And not just yellow ones. Black ones, spotted ones, holey ones, even ones featuring the Sydney Harbour Bridge, every conceivable design is on display throughout the city as part of the Go Superlambananas project.
On Monday, we celebrated this in an eight-page supplement featuring some of the wacky designs.
Mrs E Moore, of Allerton, wrote to us on Wednesday to say how much she had enjoyed the pull-out. She writes: “I have been a fan of the Superlambanana ever since it arrived in Liverpool, and think it is fantastic to see it such a cornerstone of our Capital of Culture year. Of all the projects this year, I think this will be one of the most memorable for ordinary Liverpudlians.”
Still on an artistic theme, on Tuesday we ran a piece by Mike Chapple which revealed that Liverpool photographer Mark McNulty was staging an exhibition of his music photographs across the city.
It prompted Jenny Shaw to email us. She writes: “Thanks for the enlightening piece on Mark McNulty. I spotted some of these photos in the Metquarter last week and was sure they were by Mark as they had his distinctive look; however; I couldn’t find any information explaining their origins. You often see Mark’s works in music and fashion magazines, and it is great to see such a talented local photographer getting the sort of acclaim he deserves.”
The Daily Post was all at sea last week with the arrival of two liners and the Navy, and our coverage of these grand events caused Graham Evans, of Hightown, to write to us. He says: “I have been a Daily Post reader for more years than I care to remember. Last week, your articles on the Grand Princess and the Ark Royal visiting Liverpool were informative with regard to the times they were due on the river. Being ex-Merchant Navy, I am very interested as to what is transiting the river.
“I saw both vessels from the foreshore at Hightown along with around 30 others, which inspired me to ask if it would be possible to have a list of shipping, along with times of arrival, printed once a week?
“I do believe with increased shipping on the Mersey it would be of interest to a lot of readers.”
We know from the numbers of people logging onto our website, that people are very interested in the ships coming into the Mersey these days, and your suggestion is a valid one. Although we cannot print a full list of all shipping, we will be endeavouring to alert readers to all the big ships coming into Liverpool and providing you with videos and photos as often as possible. We are also looking at adding a maritime section to our website www.liverpool dailypost.co.uk, in the near future.
